Naltona Cedar Memorial
Details

Barguna is a coastal and disaster prone area. Naltona Union of Barguna Sadar Upazila is the worst affected by natural calamities as it is on the Bay of Bengal. The catastrophic cyclone Sidr hit the district on November 15, 2006. 1345 people lost their lives in Sidr violence. During the Sidr, the Naltona Union embankment broke and water entered and received 20 feet more water than usual.More than 50 bodies were found here the day after the cyclone. As no place was found for burial of the body, 29 persons were buried in 19 graves without burial shroud at this place. The graves are still the memory of Sidr. At the initial stage, Sangram, a local development agency in collaboration with Barguna Press Club, took initiative to preserve this mass grave. Later, Deputy Commissioner Barguna Mr. Mostain Billah Sir preserved and modernized the graves.
