Village Court (Amendment) Bill, 2013 placed in JS

 

  DHAKA: The Village Court (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was placed in parliament today with a proposal for incorporating some new clauses into the existing Village Court Act, 2006 for a smooth carrying out judicial activities at the village level.

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak placed the bill in the House on behalf of LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam.

The bill proposes bringing necessary amendments to the existing rules for not holding trial of any convicted person under the village court. It also proposes incorporating rules to dispose of revision prayers by the concerned assistant judge within 30 days after receiving any petition against any village court order.

The bill proposed inclusion of a rule for increasing women representation in village court and dispose of cases in the court within a stipulated timeframe.

Besides, the bill proposed incorporating rules aimed at stopping the trend of filing false cases with the village court. It also recommended a fine of Taka 2,000 in case of filing false charges.

At the very out set of placing the bill, BNP lawmaker ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan raised objection against introducing the bill,

which was later rejected by voice votes.
